The band had our National championships 2014 for BYBA at Telford football club and it was a honour performing alongside some of the best people - people who are family. We went knowing we had to perform and play the best we have ever done this season to even beat our previous score - and we knew it was going to be a challenge. Normally we have early morning starts because being a younger band we perform in the morning so it was very nice to perform late afternoon. It gave us some time to have a rehearsal before hand and clean all our instruments and to sit and chill and wait to see what the day brings. We went through the show a couple of times and went inside to get the MR sheen on our brass instruments. The weather at this point - raining! Its always a sign that finals is due! We were already and got on our big red coach - Attain. We got to the venue and the nerves were showing in some of the younger members. Some of the old members were trying to keep calm. We all got off the coach and starting calming everybody down by playing a quick game - as we do, and then starting to talk about all our banding memories. The boss came back gave us our passes and gave us our orders to be ready for a set time, which ended up not being long before we had to be in our line ready to go. We marched around to the entrance of the marching arena and the nerves was really showing in all members. We played our warm ups and we were ready. This was it. Last chance Comets. We got this.
We approached the boxes that were set on the arena and there they were the cowboys and girls appeared! Some drunk, some doing a showdown, the girls in guard catching eyes on their next victim. We were ready. We were set. Its on us.
Sarah called us up and that was it - SHOW TIME
We played out of skins and everybody made it over the finish line. Members were crying, laughing and smiling. This is what being a Comet is about! Our assistant corps director who is also our brass instructor 'aged out' for a second time by leaving her shoes and hat on the marching field. Something that touched everyone. It was just the long wait for the final results. Results time! nerves ........ sighing ....... deep breathing have we done it, have we beaten our 60 target that was set. Here it goes, The Comets PE ....... 62. We did it! We beaten our target. Who cares we didn't win, we achieved something to ourselves this season that yet again we beaten every score that was set in our previous competitions which meant we improved every time we went on competition! Something the Comets will always do! To end the day with a high, our good friends at Cadence came over to congratulate us, and we asked if we could march off with them - bands united! For our younger members it was a really good experience to march off with a bigger band! But for us older members it was a sweet and memorable memory that will stop with us forever.
