Sunday 8th November saw one of the most important events in the organisation’s calendar, the Remembrance Sunday parade. Once again the band led the community in this most important of commemerations...
The parade, which seems to increase in numbers as the years go by, commenced in Bayer Street at 9.45am in readiness for the service at the cenotaph. This service was led by Alan Howes, vicar of St Chad’s Church Coseley. Two members of the band, Kate Anderson and Bethany Poole performed the last post and revelle, and the band played the hymn O God Our Help In Ages Past while the community laid their wreaths. The band stood shoulder to shoulder with the community and two members laid a wreath on behalf of The Coseley Comets
Once the service had come to a conclusion, the parade then reformed and the Coseley Comets then led the community to the service at Christ Church, where one of our members, Kate Anderson once again performed the last post and revelle. Bethany Poole performed the last post and revelle at Upper Ettingshall Methodist Church.
Steve Poole, Secretary of The Coseley Comets said ‘The band see this day as one of the most important dates in the annual calendar. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the local community on this important day in giving respect to the people who have lost their lives so that we can live in peace in conflicts both past and present. We were asked to lead the parade by then councillor Margaret Wilson and we have continued to do so ever since. The band are proud of representing Coseley wherever we go and this date confirms our commitment to the community that we serve. On behalf of the Coseley Comets I would like to pay thanks to all those involved in the organisation of the parade. It was also nice to see new groups taking part in the parade and hope to see many more next year. It shows that the community in Coseley is alive and kicking and moving forward together in a positive way’
