The Coseley Comets, Black Country Festival 11th July 2015
Saturday 11th July saw the in demand Coseley Comets perform again at the second Black Country Festival held in the capital of The Black Country, Dudley. This is the flagship event of the whole Black Country Festivities which now last for over a fortnight taking in various activities throughout the Black Country. The event, bigger and better than last year, saw the band take to the arena at 3.40pm. As the band were too big for the main stage they performed in the middle of the audience
The band struck an instant rapport with the eagerly watching audience with their selection of songs from theatre productions, All That Jazz a bright opening number taken from the musical ‘Chicago’. They then moved on to a contrasting slow yet emotion packed I Dreamed a Dream from the smash hit ‘Les Miserables’. Then to lighten the mood they moved on to Defying Gravity taken from the West End hit show ‘Wicked’ and finished the show with the foot tapping number December 1963 Oh What A Night from the smash hit show ‘Jersey Boys’
The performances left the audience wanting more from the band. The band secretary Steve Poole said ‘We enjoyed performing at the Black Country Festival in 2014 and the members really enjoyed the day. With this in mind we really were looking forward to the 2015 version, and we can say that we were not disappointed. The band would like to place on record their thanks for the hard work that is done by the committee of The Black Country Festival and we are looking forward to the 2016 event. The band see themselves as an integral part of The Black Country and represent the area wherever we perform. We also think that we promote the activities of The British Youth Band Association, The Traditional Youth Band Association and Drum Corps UK. We also recognise the hard work put in by the members of the band, the staff and the volunteers without who there would not be a band in Coseley to perform’
