The Coseley Comets
Birmingham International Tattoo 26th/27th November
The Birmingham International Tattoo took place last weekend with bands and groups from the UK and Europe participating in this, the largest indoor tattoo in the UK.
Following intensive practice on the Saturday afternoon everyone was ready for the first performance in the evening. The event began in earnest with a performance from The Coseley Comets. After a tremendous introduction from the compere, Maurice Day the band entered the arena to a magnificent reception from the gathered audience. This really settled the members especially the ones who had not appeared at the Barclaycard Arena before.
The band performed their 2016 production ‘The Phantom of The Opera’, including numbers such as Phantom Of The Opera, Masquerade, Music Of The Night, and All I want Is You with a reprise at the end.
This was not the end of the Tattoo for the band as we were once again honoured to be included as part of the Tattoo finale, only this time under the direction of the tattoo musical director Captain Oliver Jeans Med (Open)BMus (Hons) LRSM CAMUS, the Director of music for the Corps of the Royal Engineers
The same happened on Sunday afternoon, and again the band performed admirably to the assembled audience and again got a fantastic ovation both before and after the performance.
It was a very tired group of youngsters who left the Barclaycard Arena on Sunday evening but proud of what they had achieved, both for themselves and as a group.
Steve Poole, Secretary of the band said ‘ The Birmingham International Tattoo is the most prestigious event that we participate in. We go there to perform to the best that we can be and also to represent Coseley, Dudley, The Black Country and the associations that we have been part of, and taken part in their events, The Traditional Youth Band Association (TYMBA), Drum Corps United Kingdom (DCUK) and The British Youth Band Association (BYBA)
On behalf of the band management, I would like to pay tribute to the members and the staff. It is a very hard weekend, particularly on the Saturday when the afternoon is spent in intensive rehearsals. Everyone involved with the band were impeccable for the duration of the event and that is true testament to their parents and the staff of the band.
Also on behalf of the band I would like to put on record our thanks to the organisers of the Tattoo for their hard work during the weekend and organisationally prior to event, and without who there would not be a Tattoo.
