The Coseley Comets
Birmingham International Tattoo 28th/29th November
The weekend of the 28th/29th November saw what the Comets regard as the major event of the year, The Birmingham International Tattoo.
The event, held at the Barclaycard Arena (formerly the NIA) is now a truly international event with organisations from all over Europe taking part. The Tattoo is now the largest indoor Tattoo in the country.
The band, together with the 14th Eastleigh Scout and Guide band,(The Spitfires) perform in our own right before the event and during the break. Both bands are then invited to perform in the grand finale with all the participants of the Tattoo.
Steve Poole, Secretary of the band said ‘ The Birmingham International Tattoo is the most prestigious event that we participate in. We perform our 2015 production Musical Diversity, A Night At The Theatre, before the event starts on the one day and in the interval on the other. For the wrong reasons this was special as the reception we had when our guard hoisted the French national flag during ‘I Dreamed A Dream’. We also take part in the grand finale where we play with all the other participants. The music is sent a couple of months prior to the event which has to be learned.
On behalf of the band management, I would like to pay tribute to the members and the staff. It is a very hard weekend, particularly on the Saturday when the afternoon is spent in intensive rehearsals. Also due to the events in Paris the security was really stepped up and there were no issues. All the members conducted themselves with the dignity that we would expect by being part of The Comet Family. Also on behalf of the band I would like to put on record our thanks to the organisers of the Tattoo for their hard work over the weekend and organisationally prior to event, and without who there would not be a Tattoo
To view the photos taken on the day of the band please go to the facebook page ‘Comets Media Team’, like the page and the photos are there to view together with photos from other events we have taken part in. We would also like it if you would like or leave a comment that we as a team can respond to.
