Coseley Christmas lights switch on

The Coseley Comets, Coseley Christmas Lights
1st December 2015

1st December saw Coseley switching on the Christmas lights. The event commenced at 4pm with a ‘market street’, fair rides and stalls, refreshment stalls and entertainment provided once again by Black Country Radio. In addition the local shops stayed open which added to the event.
...
The event, which took place last year for the first time was improved and extended for 2015. The community responded and turned out in their droves supporting all the traders and the fair rides

The Coseley Comets once again performed for their local community, this time playing their ever increasing repertoire of Christmas Carols. On this occasion the band performed to a packed local audience of all ages who applauded and cheered every carol, with members of the audience singing along with the band. Once the band had finished Councillor Melvin Mottram, together with local children pressed the all important button after the customary 10 second countdown and to the cheers of the gathered crowd the lights were on.

Band Secretary, Steve Poole said ‘This event, which restarted last year is now one of the high spots of the band calendar. We love to play for the community of Coseley and the members respond to the reaction that they give. We are now increasing our repertoire of Christmas Carols and we gave a great performance on the night. It was great to see members of the audience singing along with the band. For the band, the staff, parents and supporters this event ‘kicks off Christmas’
The switch on is becoming more and more popular and this is borne out with the ever increasing audience. The Coseley Comets would like to place on record their heartfelt thanks to Councillors Melvyn Mottram, Clem Bough, Star Anderton and all their team for putting on a tremendous event. Without their hard work behind the scenes the community of Coseley would not have an event to attend and are already looking forward to next year’s event’
