For One Night Only

The Coseley Comets, For One Night Only
Brierley Hill Civic Hall 29th September 2015

On Tuesday 29th September, The ‘in demand’ Coseley Comets returned to the local community and performed at the ‘For One Night Only’ event , organised by the Dudley Community Voluntary Service.

...
This was a great event for us as we were performing in front of representatives from local and national children’s charities, and children’s organisations. Also present were leaders of children’s services from Dudley Council. It was an opportunity to meet some great volunteers who put in a lot of hours unselfishly for the benefit of people not as lucky as they are.

The band had the privilege of closing the event. We performed on the stage our 2015 production, ‘A Night At The Theatre’. We began the performance with the classic All That Jazz from Chicago. Then we move to I Dreamed A Dream from the show Les Miserables. Then we moved on to Defying Gravity from the show Wicked and finally we finished the performance with the foot tapping number December 1963, Oh What A Night from the hit West End musical The Jersey Boys.

The band were really well received and the ovation at the end of each piece and the end of the performance proved this.

Steve Poole, secretary said that we were approached by the Dudley CVS to perform at the event a few weeks ago, and of course it is always a pleasure to perform in front of your peers. At the end of it, we are all volunteers, even though we all work in different fields and spheres the result is the same. Even though it is our national finals this weekend the band took time out, cancelled a practice to perform for the people at the Civic Hall

BYBA - Brass Explosion

The Coseley Comets, BYBA Competition, Brass Explosion, Stafford 20th... September 2015 Sunday 20th September saw the Coseley Comets return to the competition arena after the summer break with a performance at the BYBA Brass Explosion show at Stafford Rangers Football Club. The day started off on a bad note with the coach being involved in a collision on the way to collect the band. Although we set off late, there were no injuries which was good and we duly arrived at the venue. The organisers were kept fully aware of our situation and we were slotted in further in the programme than planned. The day was keenly fought by all bands present on the day, and all the bands eligible for the league were present. Each band gave a great performance but the performance given by the Coseley Comets was exceptional and from last position at the last BYBA competition (Daventry) the band finished in first place with a score of 58.4. This is an uplift of 11 points from Daventry. Corps Director Jayne Poole could not hide her pleasure with the results. She said ‘Over the last few weeks the members and the staff have worked really hard on their personal performance and the overall performance of the band, and that hard work has borne fruit today. It was a hard fought competition by all the competing bands in the division and we look forward now to the National Finals at Telford on October 3rd’ There now follows two weeks of practice in preparation for the National Finals where we hope to finish our competition season with the best performance of the year. The band then move on to their community commitments which includes Remembrance Sunday and Christmas To view the photos that were taken on the day of the band please go to the facebook page ‘Comets Media Team’, or The Comets Performance Ensemble, like the page and the photos are there to view together with photos from other events we have taken part in. We would also like it if you would like or leave a comment that we as a team can respond to. Anyone interested in the band, whether to join, to check on our future events, or to book the band for an event please come and see us where we are performing.
